How to Handle a Knocked-Out Tooth

Knocked-Out Tooth

Quick Action Can Save Your Smile

Dental emergencies can happen unexpectedly, and knowing what to do can make all the difference. At Timber Ridge Dental, we want our patients to be prepared—especially when it comes to a knocked-out tooth.

First Steps After a Tooth Is Knocked Out

  • Hold the tooth by the crown (top), not the root
  • Rinse gently with water—do not scrub
  • Try to place it back in the socket if possible
  • If not, keep it moist in milk or saliva

Why Time Matters

A tooth has the best chance of survival if replaced within 30 minutes. Call us immediately so we can provide urgent care.

Preventing Dental Injuries

  • Wear a mouthguard during sports
  • Avoid chewing hard objects like ice
  • Be cautious during activities where falls are possible
